In "The Woman Warrior" Is about a girls culture that shes is not familiar and how it affects her. The girl gets judged about how uncultured she is about her own culture. In the text it states" It spoils my day with self-disgust when I hear my broken voice come skittering out into the open. It makes people wince to hear it." This quote means that she herself is very self conscious of the way she talks and it truly bothers her. Although it is improving it still is not the perfect English that everyone else around her talks. Also the fact on how it makes people wince to hear it means that people are most likely making her feel more uncomfortable because her English is not like theirs. I find this quote to be important because it is an actual problem that people to this day face and it might affect them. People cannot complete things to the best of their ability if they cannot understand or comprehend what needs to be said. I have personally seen one of my professors call out on a student because he knows she does not feel so comfortable speaking because of her accent and the way she pronounced words. I know he was trying to help her but the way he came off was too strong to a point where he embarrassed her saying if she did not read to leave the classroom. So this is something that is still happening and people don't feel so comfortable about it.
